One of the most important pieces of advice you will get from fitness experts is about refuelling your body after a workout. While what you eat before a workout is important, what you eat after one is as important too! After depleting your body of energy with exercise and with your muscles taking a hit, it's important to replenish all of that. However, not all foods can be eaten after a workout as they might negate all the exercise you just did! Here are the foods to avoid just after a workout...

Did you know that carbohydrates are a vital part of post-workout recovery and nourishment? Eating glycogen-rich foods will help replenish all the carbohydrates you lost during the workout. Fruits are an incredibly good source of carbohydrate and bannanas, blueberries and kiwi make for great options for a post-workout meal.

Many of us tend to drink sugary energy drinks, however, they should be avoided because they are made of artificial sweeteners and bulking agents. Not all proteins powders are created equal and hence, to choose and pick the right one is of utmost importance. Be wise and pick the right post-workout drink for yourself.

While some energy bars could be an essential part of healthy snacking, not all are. Avoid overly processed energy bars where you do not recognise any known ingredient. Avoid snack bars that contain artificial sweeteners (such as aspartame), refined sugar, or high levels of natural sugar.

Sports drinks aren't advised after regular and everyday exercise. Now, while you might look the part sipping an energy drink, it's not always the healthiest option. Swap your sports drinks with water, coconut water or fruit smoothies to gain the same benefits. Trust us, they are a lot more healthy than you'd imagine.

Craving for salty foods is common after a workout but avoid any processed salty foods. Opt for a banana instead to replenish potassium levels. It would make no sense to snack on salty wafers after a good workout, right? Choose healthier options instead!

Now, this one is a no-brainer! High-fat content can slow the digestion process and leave you feeling sluggish and lazy, instead of energised after a workout. Aim to consume micro-nutrients and nourishing ingredients post your workouts to make the most of it!
